It has been a great first season of classes! We started with learning green etching techniques last spring, felt the creative energy of middle and high school students last summer, and have made many new friends with Open Studio, Monoprint and Scarf Printing classes. Sunghee Park has been an inspirational teacher and guide through our whole year, and this fall we were so lucky to add Terry Conrad, assisted by his wife Rachel, to our teaching staff. They are already gaining a following for their excellent instruction in carving woodblock for Relief Printing. Adding variety, Mary Wheeler, a fun and knowledgeable jewelry instructor, helped Lise kick off our Beading and Jewelry Club last week.
Sunghee will teach a 4 part series of Monoprint classes Wednesday mornings starting January 12, a 2- part class exploring Carborundum on Thursday afternoons starting January 22, and a 2-part class to introduce us to green Etching techniques on Thursdays February 3 and 7.
Terry has scheduled another of his popular Woodblock classes for Saturday January 22. He will just be back from Penland School of Arts and Crafts, where he will be have 2 weeks to immerse himself in a letter press project! For February he is planning a multiple series class so we can learn the art of Reduction Woodblock Printing, and he will regularly be hosting Open Studio hours.
Lise and Mary will host the Bead and Jewelry Club every First and Third Friday evening. We made forged silver earrings at our first class, a new technique will be explored every week.
And I, Kathy, will be available for Scarf Printing classes. As the word spreads on how fun this process is, I am receiving requests from various groups to schedule classes.
The studio will continue to be available for Open Studio, posted hours or by request. Lise and I look forward to meeting you, and hearing from you! Tell us what you would like to see offered at Ragged Edge!
