Scarf Printing, 2 March, 2011

What an enjoyable day I had!  My first class  yesterday was with a group of quilting friends, and Ken as well to spice things up.  I got a big hug from Elsie, who had just recently celebrated her 85 birthday.  She proclaimed “I had a lot of fun, it sure beats quilting!”

Ruby gathered a group of colleagues and friends for the evening class.  I hear they are all beautifully adorned in their new signature accessories at work today!

And Diane had this to say:  “All I can say is WOW! In an attempt to “loosen up” my watercolors, I ventured into your scarf painting class. My head is already swimming with new ideas that I’d like to try. Many more classes are definitely in my future.

Wild Scarves Crazy Quilt Collage

I am really enjoying the responses to both my scarves and the classes I teach on how to make them.  Here’s a collage I created from photos I had to stand on a chair to take, with the scarves laid out on our huge classroom table.

Large Scale Print Instalation Fills Esther Massry Gallery at St Rose

[sthumbs=307|305|299,160,3,n,center,]

Loved this show!  A must see!  It’s on until March 20th, but beware the gallery is closed for Spring Break March 6-13.  The gallery will be open late for First Friday March 4.

“The limits of traditional printmaking techniques including lithography, silkscreen, woodblock and etching are explored by this master printer.  Print and paper media are cut up, overprinted, repeated, reassembled in multiple ways into room-sized installations mirroring the construction of the social world and focusing on concerns with history and politics.  The artist is co-founder of S11 Press-Prints of Darkness, a collaborative print shop in Brooklyn, New York.”

These are samples Terry carved and printed at our last relief printing class.  I love the effects when the simple blocks are printed one over another.  I’d love to start printing on cloth and t-shirts!   I’m planning to carve some blocks to add as elements with my monotypes.  Here are my first two blocks!

Painter Michael Van Winkle to Experience Printmaking at Ragged Edge

At the invitation of fellow artist Terry Conrad, painter Micheael Van Winkle will be trying his hand at monotype here at Ragged Edge studio February 25 and 26.

Both Terry and I are excited to see how his painting style translates to this spontaneous and painterly printmaking technique.
