Sunny Silks

[simage=591,512,n,left,]

While Jennet and her class are using traditional printmaking techniques to print on fabric at the studio today, I enjoyed a sunny day in the backyard.

These are 4 panels I printed Saturday.  I started bright and early as my new day job has me to work by 6am, so I am developing a good discipline!

My plan is to craft them into a wearable garment.

Tomorrow I have a group of 9 students at the studio to print silk scarves!

Upcoming Workshop at Zea Mays

Lise and I took this fabulous workshop at Zea Mays last summer.
We were so inspired, we invited Nancy to teach at Ragged Edge in September!

Photo-based Printmaking Workshop July 25-29

Nancy Diessner

Photography and Printmaking are not strangers to each other, and in fact can work together beautifully in several different processes. This workshop will introduce you to the magic of several distinct photo-based printmaking techniques, including the lithographic Pronto Plate process and Photopolymer Intaglio, which involves a photo-sensitive polymer plate. These processes are much safer than traditional photo-etching, which relies on hazardous chemicals.

This five-day workshop with photo printmaking expert Nancy Diessner will allow you to immerse yourself in these processes, and will give you the confidence to explore how you can best adapt them to your own artwork. We’ll begin with the more direct processes, and work up to Photopolymer Intaglio, the process that has the potential to be the most refined. We’ll wrap up the workshop exploring ways to combine these processes together with other printmaking processes, to create startling and unique prints.

$630 non-members $570 members – partial scholarships available – register here

We have a full array of exciting workshops this summer – explore the possibilities on our website.

Anchoring the festivities at Monument Square is the The Arts Center of the Capital District I stopped in to see all the wonderful work in the annual Fence Salon! It will run until July 27. Here’s the 3 works I submitted. (For a better image of the first piece, and a peek at the ghost print from this plate, check out my blog. )

I really wish I had snapped a picture of Jim Summa’s fabulous tie-dye shirt when I ran into him. Jim has taken many classes at Ragged Edge, we first met in a class at The Arts Center He made his dyed his shirt at The Albany Art Room.

I love Kristin Gallo’s colorful hand painted cotton scarves. Aren’t they just beautiful and brilliant in the summer sun? And Kristin’s smile is sunny too! You can check out her handpainted wallets and other accessories on her website, they are super cool.[sthumbs=400|398|399,160,max,n,center,]
