a gallery of scarf prints
I love printing on the silk scarves. I work fast, from all directions, expending a fair bit of energy, which results in the design achieving a sense of movement and repetition of marks and colors. I don’t fuss over color choices, but I do have lot’s of pots of thickened dyes, as well as squeeze bottles, ready to grab and paint with. If I feel I’m getting a bit stuck in a rut after producing several scarves, I just reach for a fresh tool. That kicks off a new adventure in mark-making and I carry on my merry way, groovin’ to some music as I whip out more scarves.
Layered Woodcuts

I’ve been combining monotype with the fish tail woodcut I made in Terry’s class. The first layer was a repeat pattern of the woodcut, in orange Akuakolor Intaglio ink. Then came a couple of plates using the thickened dyes I use for printing the scarves.  I chose areas to print the woodcut, cutting up the larger background sheets. You can probably notice when I used the press, and when I used a barron to print.

I love this one – it looks like the fish is jumping out of the water.[sthumbs=392|391|390|388|383|384|386|394|382,160,3,n,center,]
Sharing Scarf Printing With International Visitors
Right here in Cohoes we have our own Citizen Ambassador!
Diane Conroy-LaCivita, known to most as the dynamic owner of Harmony House Marketplace, hosted a group of entrepreneurial women touring the US with the International Visitor Leadership Program last week. From Bangladesh, Gambia, Hungary, Jordan, Oman, Trinidad and Tobego, and Turkey,
One of the goals of this international exchange, facilitated by the International Center of the Capital region, is to provide examples of entrepreneurial efforts in the U.S, particularly those initiated by women.
Along with meeting local businesswomen Mel Quinlan from Oberlander group, and Jessica Close from LinualLinx, both Remsen Street neighbors of Ragged Edge, the women enjoyed some fun at the studio making scarves!

One Student’s Example Of Hard Ground Etching
Do you love to draw ? Would you like to make multiples of your art images? Long before the invention of photographic processes, artists have used hard ground etching techniques to capture fine lines and sharp details to create rich, compelling, hand pulled fine art prints. Learn non-toxic etching processes such as plate preparation, proper inking, wiping and printing skills to achieve a degree of creative expression that is exciting and fulfilling.
Hard ground etching is one of the most basic line drawing techniques that allow you to make multiples. Learn the non-toxic copper etching process in the beginner- level workshop. You will learn plate preparation, proper inking, wiping and printing skills. Sunghee will review the basic history of the medium and share with you many samples of her own and student’s works.

These are two of the several works created by Michael during a two day intensive at the studio. An accomplished painter, this was his first experience with printmaking. The results were wonderful!
We look forward to hosting more artists – let us know if you are interested.
"My two day residency at Ragged Edge was truly a terrific experience. It was jam packed with new experience and exciting discoveries. The space is casual feeling and comfortable and provides all of the tools necessary to dive into the process of printmaking. Terry Conrad is a terrific tutor and knowledgeable guide in the studio. It was a wonderful introduction to monotype printing. Thanks!"
